Connect a bank, only if you want to
Money Talks asks nothing of you: no signup, no login, no connection. A bank connection is the one feature that breaks that rule, so it is optional, read-only, and yours to switch off. Here is what it does and where it stops.
The one feature that asks something of you
Every other part of this app works with nothing but your thumb. You open it, you type an amount, and you are done, anonymously and offline. A bank connection is different: it asks for consent, it reaches out to your bank, and it needs the internet. That is a real ask, and it deserves a real reason. The reason is the routine rows: the card payments you would otherwise type in one at a time. If having them arrive on their own is what keeps your ledger going, the connection has earned the ask. If not, leave it off. Money Talks is a complete app without it.
You consent inside your bank, not in our app
Connecting happens on your bank's own screens. You approve the access there, in the flow your bank controls, and you come back to Money Talks when it is done. Your login and password never travel through us, because we never ask for them and never see them. Whatever the connection needs to keep working is encrypted where it is stored.
Read-only, and nothing more
The access is read-only. A connection can read the transactions your bank reports, and that is the whole list. It cannot pay anyone, move a balance, or set anything up on your behalf, because there is nothing in it that could. And you can disconnect at any time, in a tap, without asking anyone.
Disconnecting keeps your history
Turning a connection off stops new transactions arriving. It does not take the old ones away. Everything already imported stays in your ledger, in your reports, and in your net worth. A connection you tried for a month leaves your history intact when you end it, which is the only way trying it can be a fair offer.
Your first 90 days, on your terms
When you connect, Money Talks can pull up to 90 days of history, and you decide whether to bring it in. That choice matters if you have been keeping the ledger by hand: a few months of bank rows dropped on top of your own work would bury it. When an imported transaction does match something you already entered, the app asks you rather than leaving a duplicate for you to find later.
Categories learned from you, not imposed on you
Your bank does not know that a card payment was a work lunch or a gift for your sister. You do. Money Talks learns from the way you file your own transactions and uses that to categorize what arrives, so the categories stay in your language and match the way you already think about your money.
A quiet ping when the bank reports something
Money Talks can send a push notification when your bank reports a new transaction, so you see spending as it lands instead of at the end of the month. Card payments show up once your bank posts them, which is usually within a day. Nothing here is a live feed at the checkout, and we would rather tell you that than have you wonder why the coffee you bought two minutes ago is not on screen yet.
One bank today, more on the way
monobank, in Ukraine, is the bank you can connect right now, and more are coming. If yours is not on the list yet, nothing is lost: add transactions in seconds by hand, or bring your history in with a CSV import. That path is not a stopgap, it is how most people use Money Talks.
Part of Money Talks Pro, and optional
Bank connections are part of Money Talks Pro, with a 30-day free trial. Optional is the important word: the free app still needs no signup, still works fully offline, and still holds your budgets, goals, and history without a connection anywhere in sight. See pricing for what else Pro adds.
Frequently asked questions
Which banks can I connect?
monobank, in Ukraine, is the bank you can connect today. More banks are on the way. Until yours arrives, everything else in Money Talks works the way it always has: add transactions yourself or import a CSV file.
Do you see my bank login or password?
No. You give consent inside your bank's own flow, on your bank's screens, so your login and password never pass through Money Talks. What we hold for the connection is encrypted at rest.
Can Money Talks move money out of my account?
No. A connection is read-only. It can read the transactions your bank reports and nothing else. There is no payment, no transfer, and no standing instruction of any kind.
What happens to my data if I disconnect?
Disconnect whenever you want, and the transactions already imported stay in your ledger. Your history is yours: disconnecting stops new transactions arriving, it does not erase the ones you already have.
Will connecting a bank duplicate the transactions I entered by hand?
No. When an imported transaction matches something you already entered yourself, Money Talks asks you instead of leaving two copies behind. Connecting also pulls up to 90 days of history and lets you decide whether to import it, so a ledger you kept by hand is never buried.
Is a bank connection free?
Bank connections are part of Money Talks Pro, which has a 30-day free trial. They are also entirely optional. Everyday budgeting stays free, works offline, and needs no signup at all.
